Emergency Services

Few things in life are as stressful as a dental emergency—especially when they happen at inconvenient times. We do our best to help prevent dental emergencies by taking a proactive approach to your dental health with routine examinations. But despite our best efforts, they can still happen.

Some emergencies require immediate attention in the office; others can be managed at home until we can see you during regular business hours. Call the office so that we can determine the urgency or guide you through the situation until you can get to our office. We will do our best to schedule your emergency dental appointment as soon as possible.

What Is a Dental Emergency?

If you have suffered a trauma that involves a head or back injury, broken bones, or uncontrolled bleeding, you should call 911 immediately or head to the nearest emergency room. You may need treatment for more conditions that are more severe than a dental injury.

If you are in pain, you should call the dentist immediately as this is your body’s way of alerting you to a problem. Letting a dental emergency go untreated can put you at risk for tooth loss or infection, and it can even risk your overall health.

Some common dental emergencies include:

  • A toothache that goes from bad to excruciating
  • Swelling or pain in the gums or jaw
  • A broken or cracked tooth
  • A broken or lost filling or crown
  • Bleeding from the mouth
  • Damage to a denture
  • A knocked out or loosened adult tooth
  • A broken jaw

What Happens When You Call Us for an Emergency?

If your emergency happens after hours, call our number and leave a message; we will return your call. If your emergency occurs during regular office hours, we can talk to you to help assess the situation. We leave room in our schedule to see emergency patients on a daily basis.

If you come in, our first priority will be to restore your comfort as soon as possible, then make a diagnosis so we can recommend the appropriate treatment.

Thankfully, dental emergencies don’t happen that frequently, but when they do, rest assured that as your partner in health, Sequoia Family Dental will make your oral health a priority.
